Create Jobs and Economic Opportunity
Chuck Bennett has a vision for job creation in Salem.
Over $50 million in urban renewal funds will be available in west, north and downtown Salem over the next few years. Plans have been drawn to maximize the number of jobs from these opportunities. There also are neighborhood and City Council goals and plans with big job-creating components.
Bennett can provide the effective, steady leadership to guide these projects.
The Mayor is the spokesman for the city in meetings with potential employers. Bennett has excellent relations with the city’s partners in these activities at SEDCOR, the Chamber of Commerce and the State of Oregon’s Business Oregon. He also has represented Salem on a trade mission to Japan.
Bennett has worked to get city support for the Career and Technical School on Portland Road opened by Salem-Keizer School District. It will prepare Salem young people for a changing and expanding local job market.
Bennett’s emphasis is on growing local companies using a range of economic development tools available to the city. He also strongly supports continued improvements to the city’s infrastructure system that is fundamental to attracting new jobs and encouraging business growth.
